‘Are you still watching?’ the notorious question Netflix loves to ask, putting a halt to my escapism behaviour. Anxiety.exe takes the idea of escaping mental health issues using digital media and makes the viewer instead be confronted but anxious thoughts. The thoughts take over the ‘continue watching’ button becoming bigger and bigger until fully taking over the screen. Similar, to how an anxiety attack can feel. The piece is built through Gamemaker Studios 2, making it an executable file and downloadable on any PC. By doing this it gives a sense of overtaking by the program and gave me the opportunity to dabble in some computer programming. The works also has a companion piece, Depression.exe.
